Option A: Down The Rabbit Hole-Leadership, Succession, And The Deeper Story Of Peyton Manning

LEADERSHIP NOW WORKSHOP: Down the Rabbit Hole—Leadership, Succession, and the Deeper Story of Peyton Manning
Dr. Dan Miller
The Issue
Unless tomorrow’s leaders are in place, or you know where they’ll come from, your organization is at extreme risk. Leaders leave. Always, be it by retirement, resignation, removal, or something else. You must, absolutely must, have a clear and solid idea about succession. And your idea has to be based on reality. An extra thought for you to consider as a result of watching the video: one of the most dangerous traps to fall into is the trap of lethargy and complacency–don’t just assume it’s all ready; don’t just assume it won’t be an issue; and don’t just assume that it won’t happen now because we’re not really expecting it. Succession is always around the corner and ready to spring on you at the worst possible instance.
The Story
Peyton Manning is one of the best quarterbacks to ever play professional football. When in 2011, his team, the Indianapolis Colts, faced the reality of a season without him, everything changed—for the organization, the team, and not least, for him. The deeper story of this unusual chain of events will take you into realms that you never knew existed in the complex and often startling linkage between leadership, succession, and the health of your team and organization. An extra thought for you video-viewers–do you realize that there has probably never been another professional athlete that, in the same person, embodies a sports’ greatest leap forward (fewest victories to most victories) and greatest leap backwards (fewest losses to most losses) than in a single season than Peyton Manning. That’s bizarre and worthy of exploration for its deeper lessons.
My Approach
We will dive into the flow of events that occurred in 2011 and at the same time will explore the connections to other dynamics reaching back as far as the 1970s. We will weave together an organic story, moving from point to point, using the input and involvement of each workshop participant to develop a fuller, richer, and more applicable experience than you ever would have thought possible in drawing the “do’s and don’ts” from a sports historical case study. Prepare to be positively surprised. For you video-viewers–my clients will tell you to a person that their sessions with me are the times when they’ve enjoyed more energy, creativity, and thoughtfulness than in nearly every other workshop they’ve ever attended.
