The Rhyme, The River, and the 2020s as 1920s: Point 8 and Hal Brands
Some of you will remember that five years ago, coming out of the blended reality I called WarCorona (the twin “world wars” of the pandemic and a stage of populism seen in POTUS 45), I developed an eight-point construct that I called ’20s-as-’20s. It’s a series of eight points constituting a connection between the 2020s and the 1920s.
This is Point 8. In sessions about 20s-as-20s I explain Point 8 as emphasizing a move away from “looking up” at the global climate, environment, and overall “Green” approach to “looking down” at the ground you’re standing on, the basic fundamentals of interests and semi-interests that define nation-to-nation and Power-to-Power interactions.
And this morning I bump into an important piece by Hal Brands that you might find instructive. Brands provides an all-too-overlooked review of the “geo” in geopolitics, which is a foundation of my Point 8. See below:
